My Teacher Mentor : Teacher Mel

During this program, wat pangiw give me a teacher mentor from philippines, the student usually call her teacher mel. So, she accompany me and introduce me to all EP (English Program) class. She gave me class P.1/1, P.2/1 and P.5/1 to teach. And she also give me advice about making lesson plan. We should making lesson plan before teach in the class. It contain topics and details activity that gonna do in class.

On the first week, all i do just observe the class and sometimes help her to teach. In the class, she usually use cooperative learning methods. So the student can explore the subject, and teacher just give some main point of subject. Or the class usually discuss about the topics, and she will call student by number to repeat the explanation.

The learning material that she usually use are book from school and student worksheet. She doesnt use multimedia or slide presentation, because the children should know the real things about the topics. For example, when I teach a volume measurement in P.1/1, I should bring bootles to compare about measure and to explain what measure is. Student learn from something real to abstract, and it take long time if just use picture on slide presentation. because some student hard remember in english. But for better, i think we can mix about using multimedia and instructional media.

Source of learning is based on school text book and educational website. Beside that, teacher should make worksheet depend on the subject.

Teacher mel or maybe all of the teacher in watpangiw asses he student by cognitive, affective and psycomotoric. And also using different worksheet and acivity. Things that make me interest is teacher usually give student sticker after they finish their worksheet. it makes student happy and finish the worksheet as fast as they can. So, sticker is something that make student motivated in learning activity. 

Overall, I really admire teacher mel. She can communicate well with student in class. I think, teach mathematics is not easy especially using different language but she show to me the way. She;s kind to give me a lot of advice about manage class and the materials. I'm so glad to have her as my mentor. Maraming salamat po, teacher mel!

"Up in the clouds on my way to unknown things" - unknown Finally, I have choosen as participant of SEA-Teacher project Batch 7. I really grateful because it like my dream comes true. Going abroad, far from home but learn something new. Evaluation Time

it's time, when my supervisor from VRU come to see my teaching practice. I prepared everything for about 3 days, and feel nervous when the day is come. Dr. Pimlak come earliear when i lunch. I teach p.1/1 for evaluation time. My lovely children, because there are kaimuk, kanoon, preaw and frshy. They're so cute and adorable. I teach about volume measurement. And try to use instructional media like bootles and flash card. Well, everything goes well and i enjoyed my evaluation time. I know my weaknees and strong in teaching. Both Dr. Pimlak or Teacher mel give me much advice how to teaching well. Thanks for everything SEA-Teacher.

Time to Practice

Practice make perfect Before teaching practice, I should make a lesson plan for every topics that i will teach. Teacher mel give her lesson plan to me for the example. So, i can see format of lesson plan. When teaching, the activity divide by 5 specific actvity. Warm up, presentation, practice, production and wrap up. I usually use song "Clap your hands" to warming up the student in grade 1 until 3 and doing brain gym for grade 4 until 6. Purpose of warming up is  to make childern focus and relax before receive the lesson. I know, mathematics is hard to understand, so i bring the material into something fun, real and relevant with their life. And make the enjoy before learn. But it not too long, just about 5 minutes. Second, presentation. I shoul give some materials to student so they can discuss about that. I have 10 minutes to give main purpose of the lesson. And i really like when student give all their attention to me. The i will give them some question for practi...
